Cork chartered surveyor and valuer David McCarthy is to join fledgling Sherry FitzGerald Commercial Property services in its Cork office on Lavitt’s Quay, joining the residential team and commercial agent Amanda Isherwood there.

Mr McCarthy is leaving Lisney on the city’s South Mall, where he has been since 2008. He is the third director of that firm to depart this summer.

With a BSc from Limerick Institute of Technology, Mr McCarthy’s broad experience spans the commercial gamut — in sales, acquisitions, lettings, appraisals and more — while clients he has worked with include Bank of Ireland, Permanent TSB, AIB, Deloitte, KMPG, PwC, plus advisors Kroll, along with Cork City Council, as well as firms and funds such as O’Flynn Group, Blackstone, and Bennett Construction.

Sherry FitzGerald confirmed the recent appointment, with Mr McCarthy currently on leave before taking up his new role in the commercial department.

Sherry FitzGerald’s move into commercial agency followed the ending of its link to Cushman & Wakefield.

Mr McCarthy’s departure from Lisney follows that of senior director and ex-Lisney chairperson Margaret Kelleher and Edward Hanafin last month, each with other 30 years service.

The national agency celebrates 70 years in Ireland this year, and has over 50 staff members in Cork — with offices in Dublin, Belfast, and Cork.

Surveyor Nicholas O’Connell also departed Lisney last month.

In a statement to the Irish Examiner in June, Lisney managing director David Byrne said the company “remains committed to the Cork and Munster market, and continues to operate its two distinct brands”.

“Lisney Sotheby’s International Realty serves the residential market from 55 South Mall, whilst Lisney Commercial Real Estate — which has been serving Cork for 55 years and has a considerable commercial property valuation, agency, and property management business — will continue to be run from 1 South Mall.”
