A plan to build more than 70 homes on GAA land in Kinsale has been approved by An Bord Pleanála.
The proposal by Park Developments (Dublin) Ltd had been greenlit by Cork County Council but was referred to the board after an appeal.
The plan was for 71 houses on Kinsale GAA grounds on Bandon Road in Cork.
The entire site is some 2.47ha and includes a GAA pitch, goals, fencing and dugouts, as well as a dressing room building. The proposal involved the removal of these elements.
Two third-party appeals were submitted, raising several issues. This includes noting a separate plan for 95 houses on lands to the north of the site in question is also in progress.
Concerns about traffic hazards, the design of the new houses, and the density of the development, as well as its impact on the residential amenities of adjoining properties, were all raised.
An Bord Pleanála assessed the scheme and concluded that subject to a number of conditions, it should proceed.
Elsewhere in Co Cork, a developer has appealed the local council's decision to refuse permission for a plan to build 95 new homes in Bandon.
Castle Rock Homes (Bandon) Ltd had been denied permission for its plan to build 95 houses at Knockbrogan in the West Cork town.
Planners said the proposal did not sufficiently make provision for pedestrian and cycle links to existing and future travel infrastructure.
They also said the homes, as designed, would not "assimilate appropriately into the hillside" and would be overly bulky and visually obtrusive in the landscape.
The developer has appealed this decision to An Bord Pleanála, with a decision due by late January 2025.
