The It List: 10 stylish things on our wish list this season

Geranie dress by Celia B
Ever the perennial showstopper, the sequin dress is the ultimate statement in autumn/winter party dressing. Not for the sartorial wallflower, sequins are all about stepping into the limelight. Walking past Sheena’s boutique in Cork, I spotted the Geranie dress, €330, from Spanish slow fashion brand Celia B in the window. The feathers, the bell sleeves, the keyhole neckline stopped me in my tracks. Consider this my formal apology for the incessant staring, Sheena. Shine bright like a diamond in this mini at sheenasboutique.ie.

Marie Kondo would have a field day with my day-to-day wardrobe which wildly vacillates from peacocking power pieces to sloppy drop-crotch harem pants and oversized menswear tees - there is no in-between. Or is there? Féri Folk is a brand I’ve admired for a long time now and designer Faye has found the perfect balance between style and comfort. This cotton quilted Carrie jacket just dropped on feri.ie. Made in small quantities, the handpainted printed bomber jacket comes with lining, pockets and wait for it…removable sleeves. Maximal style, minimal effort, ultimate versatility - this is a trophy piece. Available now at feri.ie.

One of my favourite people to follow on Instagram is @hoochiemermaid, a body-positive tattooed style maven with inspiration for days. Think major faux fur hats, pop culture-inspired tattoos and textured nail art with pearls, shells or neon ombre. The designer behind the account Aoife McDermott runs Dream Deli, the cool girl's go-to haven for quirky accessories inspired by Ireland’s most iconic foods that define us as a nation - the chicken fillet roll, hash browns, the humble jambon. Aoife’s most recent creation - the Guinness claw clip - instantly went viral and sold out but wait, there’s more. A new drop is hitting Aoife’s online store plainorspicy.com and you can pre-order your pint of black, €15, for the November drop now.

If like me, you’ve experienced hair loss, whether by alopecia, cancer or post-partum, you might be reticent to use heated appliances. That’s where My Lily Silk comes in. An Irish-made brand offering mulberry silk scrunchies, pillowcases, bonnets, scarves, and eye masks. I’m excited to try the heatless rollers which come in two sizes, depending on the thickness of the curls you want to achieve. Shop the full collection at mylily.ie.

Rhashidat did it first Adeleke and her fellow relay team made the hair bow their signature look. Another Irish icon, Simone Rocha draws inspiration from the almost saccharine sweet symbols of cultural rituals like communions and confirmations. The bow 2.0 is paired with spikes, mixed metal, leather, tulle and patent. In these rosette earrings, €350 at mytheresa.com, you’re the prize.

Fashion designers have finally reached peak practical and made the balaclava stylish again. From Marni Mouliné’s striped version to Stella McCartney’s mouth-covering knit, the balaclava is warm, windproof and more wearable than ever. Armed with the knowledge that the fashion industry is a huge polluter, Moss + Cable is a Donegal-based studio with a slow, sustainable approach. Invest in this stylish balaclava, €55, and feel good in the knowledge that you’re supporting local craftmakers. Available at mossandcable.com.

Planning a weekend away or a day trip on the train and need to have your phone surgically removed from your hand? Try backgammon. The boardgame is wildly unpredictable, not as challenging as chess, and you can practice online in order to stealth win without your opponent knowing you had any experience. Maison Games makes bespoke sets you can order online from €221.64. We love this marble acrylic set in collaboration with cool-girl swimwear brand, Hunza G, €300 at hunzg.com.

Sadly for those of us without a back yard, having a dog is but a dream. That’s why Gray Malin’s coffee table book 'Dogs' is a must-have for the canine-inclined. Picture Dalmatians in Aspen, poodles on Palm Beach and in Corvettes, and Daschunds at the Eiffel Tower. Beautifully captured by the New York Times bestselling author, this is the bougie book you never knew you needed. Available on Amazon or on abramsbooks.com.
Jewellery is moving away from the idea of symmetry and perfection and towards texture and idiosyncrasies that make each piece feel unique. Ennis brand Seoidin’s new collection embraces that sentiment, as seen in the composition of this bangle and sterling silver open circle ring, €56. With Gladiator on the way, we reckon the chunky bangle is about to undergo the Paul Mescal effect. Available at seoidin.com or in Mona’s Antiques in Cork.

One of the best purchases I made this year was Orla Lorenza’s MagnaTips, small magnetic closures that attach to your necklace so you never have to ruin your nails again struggling to close a tiny clasp. As someone with Dyspraxia, I always struggled to close clasps and this has made it so much more accessible. Designed to take the stress out of putting on jewellery, the other products available are lobe lifts, €12.95 for a pack of 24 which prevent your ears from being weighed down by heavy drop earrings and layering clasp to ensure you can layer as many necklaces as you want without them getting tangled up.
