Fade to black: Nine ways to embrace your fashion dark side this Halloween

Creating a multidimensional look in all-black is a matter of texture and high contrast.
On Sunday, the clocks go back. You know what that means—darkness.
Rather than counting down the days until spring, consider it a chance to experiment with wearing head-to-toe black.
Sure, it’s chic. Yes, it’s one-and-done. Easy-to-wear? Not so much.
Combined with the incumbent winter weather and black’s light-absorbing reputation, the result can read as ‘flat.’ Luckily, an easy remedy awaits.
Creating a multidimensional look in all-black is a matter of texture and high contrast.
Take a black Merino wool sweater, for instance—Lucy Nagle’s sequin cuff and collar beauty will do nicely.
Look to M&S for a sharp knife pleat skirt in faux leather, and layer with a satin trench coat. Very demure. Very mindful.
Likewise, 3-D accents (fringe, beading, hardware) are an instant way to lift a look. Keep the aesthetic fresh by playing against type.
Try pairing a leather fringe jacket with contrasting preppy staples like lug-sole loafers and a midi kilt and allow the palette to create harmony.
With longer nights ahead of us, a bit of sparkle never goes astray.
Scandi brands Ganni and Essentiel Antwerp embrace the season’s dark romance with thigh-slit sequin dresses (don’t forget sheer black tights), hardware boots and Halloween-appropriate accessories.

In the meantime, I’m dusting off my Joanne Hynes pom-pom coat and plotting my wardrobe whimsy.
Plus, there’s a pair of tall leather knee boots in Zara with my name on them.
