Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has confirmed that Chiedozie Ogbene is likely to be out for the rest of the season.

The Cork native was stretchered off during Ipswich's Premier League fixture away to Brentford last weekend with an Achilles injury.

And speaking to reporters on Friday, the Tractors boss announced that the Republic of Ireland international underwent surgery on Thursday and admitted it is unlikely he will feature again this campaign.

"Chieo had surgery on an Achilles tear yesterday and it went well. It's unlikely that he'll play any more football this season, though," said McKenna.

The news will come as a huge blow to Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson ahead of the Boys in Green's Nations League games at home to Finland and away to England in the coming weeks.

Ogbene also looks certain to miss Ireland's potetnial Nations League relegation playoff in March should they get the positive result they need against the Finnish at the Aviva Stadium on November 14 or against the English at Wembley on November 17.
