The 21 acres of land at Currahevern East, Barryroe, Cork.

A 21-acre high-quality parcel of land is new to the market in a much-coveted part of the Cork coastline just south of the village of Timoleague.

The property in question is in the townland of Currahevern, adjacent to the village of Barryroe and to its co-operative. This zone is renowned for its high-quality lands, depth of soil and proximity to important market towns and Cork city itself; an area dominated by a very strong dairying sector.

According to Bandon-based auctioneer Kieran O’Gorman, there has been an encouraging level of interest in the holding: “There’s been really strong interest in it so far, mostly from dairy farmers as well.”

The property has good frontage onto two public roads. With the basic facilities of the village of Barryroe adjacent, Butlerstown village is 2.5km to the south, while the beaches such as those at Broadstrand, Blind Strand and Moloney’s Strand are all within a few kilometres.

“It’s absolutely top-class land,” says Kieran. “It’s like the Golden Vale — it’s really the crème-de-la-crème.”

The price guide on the property is €20,000 per acre. Given its location and the trend of prices in the area, this might well prove to be even on the lower side of estimates. For all of this ‘eastern’ end of West Cork, demand has been exceptionally strong in the last decade or so and this trend has only strengthened in recent years.

“Moreover, it’s very rare for something to come up in that particular area,” adds Kieran.
