KILLEAGH followed up their East Cork final replay drama with another overtime squeaker in Cork’s JAHC quarter final in Carrigtwohill on Sunday.
After seeing off Carrignavar in a divisional final replay last week, they had a point to spare over their neighbours Whitechurch, beating them 0-28 to 1-24 after extra time. The sides were deadlocked at 0-21 to 1-18 at full time with Cillian Egan notching 0-13 in all for Whitechurch.
However Daniel Walsh racked up a more impressive 0-17 for Killeagh with three from play. Ben Walsh impressed at midfield with 0-2 from play as well, but it was Dan Landers who proved the hero with the winning score in extra time.
They go forward now to meet Kilavullen next Sunday – they defeated Dromtarriffe 1-12 to 1-14 in Kilbrin.
Ballinora were too strong for Diarmuid O’Mathunas with a double score win in Ovens (2-18 to 0-12). They will meet Tracton in the semi final. Alan O'Shea grabbed the first half goal and Shane Kingston grabbed a class second after the break when he linked up well with Darragh Holmes.
However, after 42 minutes a Caolán O Donovan point for the Castletownkenneigh men made it a four-point game (1-12 to 0-11) but thereafter Ballinora went up a gear to close out the win.
In football, Cork hurling skipper this year, Sean O’Donoghue was among the goals as Inniscarra saw off Castlemagner 4-8 to 1-8 in the JAFC quarter final in Donoughmore.
Inniscarra led 2-6 to 0-4 with first half goals from Dan O’Connell and the first of a brace from O’Donoghue in the 26th minute. Dylan O’Sullivan was the other goalscorer for the Muskerry men.
In Blarney, Liscarrcoll/Churchtown Gaels struggled to get up to the pace of their quarter final against Ballygarvan and went down 1-12 to 0-8. The Avondhu champions were only crowned on Wednesday last and were put to the sword by Ballygarvan, with Evan O’Connor grabbing 1-3.
There was only a point in it at the break (0-5 to 0-4) but points from O’Connor and Ray O’Halloran edged Ballygarvan five ahead before O’Connor sealed the win with the game’s only goal.
Kilmacabea had a surprisingly easy 0-14 to 1-5 win over Douglas in the last eight of the JAFC at Clonakilty. Damien Gore was a problem Douglas could not handle throughout, and despite a Harry Quilligan goal for the city champions, they were always second best. The west Cork men led 0-8 to 0-3 at the break.
