A garda spokeswoman said the road is currently closed to traffic and diversions have been put in place.

A man in his 20s has died after a collision took place on the N22 in Kerry on Sunday morning.

The accident happened at Islandmore, near Glenflesk, on the Macroom side of Killarney, on the N22. 

The driver was the sole occupant of the car and is understood to have been a male in his 20s. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Formal identification is pending

A garda spokeswoman said the road is currently closed to traffic and diversions have been put in place.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are examining the scene this afternoon. The local Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be conducted.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward and they are requesting those with camera footage, including motorists with dashcam footage from the area at the time, to make it available to them.

Meanwhile, a teenager is in critical condition following a serious road traffic incident involving an e-scooter in Co Kerry.

The incident occurred at around 6:30pm on Saint Brendan's Road in Tralee on Saturday.

A man, aged in his late teens, who was travelling on an e-scooter was discovered with serious injuries on the road.

He was taken to University Hospital Kerry, where his condition is described as critical.

The scene of the incident on Saint Brendan's Road has been preserved for a technical examination.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

In a statement a Garda spokesperson said: "Any road users or pedestrians who were in the area between 6.00pm and 7.00pm and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available.

"Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Tralee Garda Station on 066 710 2300, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
