Tyrone GAA’s annual convention will go ahead on Tuesday night following Conor Sally’s decision to withdraw from two elections.
The Omagh chairman has removed himself from the votes for coaching officer and Ulster Council delegate to ensure the gathering can go ahead without distraction.
Despite putting his name forward for both roles, Sally’s name had not been included on the Clár and is contesting that decision in front of Ulster GAA’s hearings committee on Monday evening.
In an email to clubs on Sunday night, solicitor Sally explained his move not to seek the two positions: “You will likely be aware of my appeal against my omission from the list of nominees for the Tyrone convention 2024.
“As the Ulster appeal is listed within 24 hours of the AGM, irrespective of the outcome, it could well disrupt the election of officers’ process at convention.
“I have proudly represented Tyrone GAA, professionally and otherwise, over a number of years, including this year acting as Tyrone Fixture analyst, a member of Tyrone CCC and have represented Tyrone GAA players at various disciplinary hearings, as well as being the solicitor for the Enough is Enough group at the A5 Public Inquiry and the ongoing Judicial Review.
“As always, my assistance and professional representation to Tyrone GAA is on a completely voluntary basis.
“I have considered my electoral omission at length over the weekend and to ensure that the Tyrone AGM 2024 proceeds without any interruption, and in the best interests of Tyrone GAA, I have decided that I will withdraw my name from the two positions that I was nominated for.
“I offer my best wishes to all those appointed to positions within Tyrone GAA, with every success in 2025.
“Finally, I will continue to serve, represent and support Tyrone GAA to the best of my ability and strive for more Tyrone success on and off the field in 2025.”
