UPHELD: Omagh chairman Conor Sally’s appeal to have his name included in two elections at Tyrone GAA convention this evening has been successful.

Omagh chairman Conor Sally’s appeal to have his name included in two elections at Tyrone GAA convention this evening has been successful.

Sally withdrew from the votes to become the county’s coaching officer and Ulster Council delegate to avoid disruption at the annual gathering.

However, he went ahead with the application to the province’s hearings committee against Tyrone’s management committee’s decision to withdraw his candidacy in both ballots.

The hearings committee adjudged: “Arising from the hearing of he case involving the above parties (Sally and Tyrone’s management committee) on 9 Nollaig 2024 and after consideration of all evidence presented, written and verbal, An Coiste Éisteachta Cúige Uladh were satisfied there was clear infringement or misapplication of Rule/GAA Code by the Decision-Maker, Coiste Baintisti Thír Eoghain. Subseqently, the appeal is upheld.”

The hearings body noted that both Rule 3.11 of the GAA’s Official Guide as well as a Tyrone county bye-law were infringed.

On Monday, Sally confirmed he would not be letting his name go forward for election as he did not want it to affect convention. “As the Ulster appeal is listed within 24 hours of the AGM, irrespective of the outcome, it could well disrupt the election of officers’ process at convention.”

The annual meeting goes ahead as the county mourns the passing of Trillick manager and former county defender Jody Gormley who passed away on Monday evening.
