Woman hospitalised with life-threatening injuries following assault in Cork city

The incident took place outside the former Savoy cinema on St Patrick where a soup kitchen feeding homeless people was operating at the time.

Gardaí are appealing for information after a woman was hospitalised with serious head injuries following an assault in Cork city on Sunday evening.

The incident took place outside the former Savoy cinema on St Patrick where a soup kitchen feeding homeless people was operating at the time. Gardaí were called to the scene at 8pm and found a woman lying unresponsive on the ground.

She was taken to Cork University Hospital where she is understood to be in a critical condition. The woman is in her 30s and is understood be a user of the city's homeless services.

No arrests have been made in connection with the investigation at this time, a Garda spokesperson said.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing to the public for assistance.

Anyone who was on St. Patrick's Street near the Savoy between 7pm and 8pm and who may have information about this incident is urged to contact Gardaí. 

People with mobile phone or dash cam footage are also asked to come forward.
